Monkey Shoulder, the world’s first ‘triple malt’ whisky is made from 100% malt whisky and no grain whisky, resulting in a richer blend of exceptional smoothness. It is crafted in small batches (27 casks) from three of the finest Speyside single malt whiskies including malts from the Glenfiddich and Balvenie distilleries.
Years ago the term ‘monkey shoulder’ referred to a temporary strain suffered by distillery workers when repeatedly turning the malting barley by hand. Thankfully, the injury has been consigned to the past, but the name lives on as an affectionate tribute to the malt men’s labour.
An elegant, stylish nose of marmalade, Crema Catalana, cocoa and malt. A sprinkling of winter spice, adds an extra dimension, alongside a mouth-watering hint of aniseed.
On the palate very malty, creamy delivery which offers up a palate redolent of berry fruit, juicy toasted barley, cloves and butterscotch. A hint of manuka honey, hot-buttered-toast and dried apricot develop.
Finishes with a medium length, with clove-studded oranges, creamy vanilla and peppermint on the tail.
